If you receive Botox, dermal filler, or other injectable treatments, timing matters before booking facial lymphatic work, sculpting massage, or intraoral buccal work. These treatments involve hands-on pressure and tissue movement, so allowing your injectable results to settle first is an important part of protecting both your comfort and your aesthetic outcome.
Injectables & Facial Massage
At Pure Therapy, we take a conservative approach: please wait at least two weeks after Botox and four weeks after dermal filler before receiving facial massage, facial lymphatic work, or intraoral buccal massage. Your injector’s individual instructions always take priority.
Why We Ask You to Wait
Botox and filler work differently, but both require thoughtful aftercare.
Botox is a neuromodulator injected into specific muscles to temporarily reduce their activity. In the first days after treatment, providers generally advise avoiding rubbing, pressure, and massage of injected areas. This helps minimize the possibility of the product spreading beyond its intended placement and gives the treatment time to settle and take effect.
General medical guidance commonly recommends avoiding facial massage for at least 24 hours, while practices may recommend longer before more intensive facial treatments.
Dermal filler adds or restores volume beneath the skin. Immediately after treatment—and while swelling and tenderness are resolving—the area should not be aggressively pressed, rubbed, or manipulated unless your injector specifically instructs you to do so. Pressure and massage too soon may increase discomfort and can affect how the filler settles.
Guidance from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons advises avoiding massage, poking, or significant disturbance of treated areas in the first 24 to 48 hours; many aesthetic practices recommend postponing facial massage and similar treatments for approximately two weeks or longer.
Because Pure Therapy’s facial work may include deeper massage, lifting techniques, jaw and cheek release, or intraoral contact, we extend this guideline to four weeks after filler. This additional time helps ensure your filler has had adequate time to settle before any focused manipulation of the facial tissue.
Why Buccal Massage Requires Extra Care
Buccal massage is performed both outside the face and, when appropriate, inside the mouth with gloved hands. It can involve intentional work through the cheeks, jawline, and deeper facial muscles.
For clients with filler in the lips, cheeks, lower face, jawline, chin, or nasolabial area, intraoral work may place pressure on or near treated tissue from a different direction. This is why we do not perform buccal massage during the four-week post-filler waiting period—even if the filler was not placed exactly where you feel tension.
After the waiting period, please let your practitioner know:
- The type of injectable you received
- The date of your appointment
- The areas treated
- Whether you have any ongoing swelling, tenderness, bruising, lumps, pain, or concerns
- Any specific instructions provided by your injector
Your treatment will be adjusted accordingly. If there is any uncertainty, we will ask you to receive clearance from your injector before proceeding.
Planning Your Appointments
For the smoothest experience, schedule facial bodywork in the days before your injectable appointment whenever possible.
If you have already received injectables, please use these Pure Therapy guidelines:
After Botox:
Wait a minimum of 2 weeks before facial massage, facial lymphatic techniques, or buccal work.
After dermal filler:
Wait a minimum of 4 weeks before facial massage, facial lymphatic techniques, or buccal work.
After both Botox and filler:
Follow the longer guideline—wait a minimum of 4 weeks.
After complications, persistent swelling, bruising, pain, or a new injectable treatment:
Wait until symptoms have resolved and follow up with your injector before booking.
Your Safety Comes First
Injectable aftercare differs by product, injection area, dose, medical history, and the technique used by your provider. The recommendations on this page are Pure Therapy’s conservative booking guidelines, not a replacement for medical advice. Always follow the instructions of the licensed injector who performed your treatment.
